BUG Attack!!!

After months in planning and praying (OK, not that true but sounded great though, in reality we only planned it in about 1~2months time and it only showed the Glory of God as only He could pull this off in this short amount of time). We finally had our first BUG. On last Sunday (02/03/08), 5 pm, we saw a gathering of 100+ youths of Ipoh in YMCA for a time of gaming fun. (40+ for Ultimate Frisbee, 30+ for Captain’s Ball, 40+ for football) and this was only from a few churches as some did not manage to come due to the fact that many of the schools are having exams in the following week. In truth, the BUG was not exactly an overwhelming success but all the positive signs are there and we are looking forward to this coming Sunday BUG. (Personally, I enjoyed the games and the seeing the fun that the youths had; was very satisfying for me and seeing how the Lord provided, was very encouraging for me.) So here are the positives:

1. The Turnout!!! 100+ youths and that are only from a few churches. I shudder to think what would have happened had every church brought their full complement. Well as the Lord had brought in the people, I am sure He will also bring in the workers.

2. The weather!!! Earlier in the morning, I was sharing in the Sunday School class about faith and as an example I used the illustration of the two previous Inter Church Games whereby for the period leading to the ICG, has been raining and on the very day itself, we had perfect weather. (Well for the first ICG, we prayed that it would not rain, I got sunburned. For the second ICG, we got smarter and prayed for a nice weather, and we had perfect weather). So as it was for this BUG, it was raining every evening leading to Sunday. One of the youths asked whether we had any contingency plan in case it rain. Well, I replied no. At about 4pm, dark clouds were looming and truth to be told, I was apprehensive. And as I turned in to YMCA, a few drops of rain fell on my windshield. My faith was a wee bit shaken. One of the youths in the Sunday School asked me did I prayed enough, and I could only smile. At the end, we had…perfect weather!!! Truly praise the Lord. Though we did have a slight drizzle but it was only a short burst and did not interrupted the games at all and I don’t think many had realized that it rained.

3. The Volunteers!!! Here I have to say a BIG thank you to all the folks that helped out. From the coaches who taught, the older youths who showed much maturity in playing and participating in the teaching sessions when they could have easily played the games themselves, the helpers in setting up the field and logistics. And of course, lastly but surely not the least, our friend who came all the way down from KL and Seremban. A VERY BIG THANK YOU!!! Philip and Melinda for helping out with the football and Grandmaster Doug for the Frisbee Sessions.

4. The Funding!!! As with all activities, money is an important part not to the extent of making the world turn but close enough. And here we had a contribution of RM1K and in the planning, we decided to use the fund to get equipments for the BUG (balls, cones, bibs, Frisbee, etc) When we tabulated the cost it amounted to RM985. And then we realize that we still need to pay for the rental of the field from YMCA (Another BIG THANK YOU to YMCA as they have assisted us by providing the facilities and giving us a superb field at a very minimal cost. This would not be possible without their timely assistance) which incidentally was RM15 giving a grand total of RM1K. (I literally had goose bumps when we got the final amount. I don’t know about the others but here one main thought was echoing through my mind, Jehovah Jireh, God provides!!!)

There are many other positives which I am sure others could fill in. For me it was indeed a very good day, and here I am reminded by Chris Tomlin’s song “How great is Our God!” See you this coming Sunday BUG and let’s join our God in this wonderful work of His.

Katan.

PS: Where are the photos? Here are the few that I have, will post more when I get the others…

We need to get a better camera. The Frisbee here looks more like an UFO

Football!!! Future Ronaldos in the making.

The first BUG group. (many had left as this was taken at the end)
